Homemade Weight Gain Shakes
I once read a post recommending "cake" shakes, aka a shake made from a cakebox mix. It was disgusting. You don't need to do this. You don't even need protein powder (but you can add it if you want). You just need a blender and a handful of the ingredients below. I like to drink these right before bed so I get a lot of extra calories added into my day :3
I just throw ingredients together without a recipe, so here are some ingredients to give you ideas and to pick and choose from! I will do a dairy liquid, ice cream, a handful of nuts/seeds/grains for extra cals, a sweetener for cals, maybe a tablespoon of cooking oil for cals, and a sometimes a fruit for flavor.
Dairy
for calories and liquid
- whole milk
- creamer/ half and half
- heavy whipping cream (very high calorie)
- (too much in blender makes whipped cream, which is not easy to drink)
- milk substitutes (soy, oat, almond)
- eggnog (high cal!)
- ice cream (for flavor + cal, needs a liquid added with it)
- sweetened and condensed milk (also needs a liquid)
- yogurt (also needs liquid)
Nuts
for calories and flavor
- peanuts/peanut butter
- almonds
- walnuts
- pecans
- sunflower seeds
- any other nuts you like
Grains and seeds
for calories
- oats
- hemp seeds
- chia seeds
- flax seeds
Sweeteners
for calories and flavor
- sugar
- honey
- maple syrup
- chocolate syrup
- caramel syrup
- other coffee syrup flavors
Fruit
for flavor
- strawberries
- blackberries/raspberries
- cherries
- mango
- pinapple
- peach
- any other frozen fruit
- banana (calorie bonus)
- avacado (calorie bonus - not sure what to pair with though for flavor)
- pumkin puree
Others
- chocolate, soft candy (flavor + calories)
- cinnanon, pumpkin spice (flavor)
- coffee (flavor + liquid)
- vanilla extract, mint extract (flavor)
- cooking oil, butter (calories)
- alcohol (liquid + calories)
- protein powder (calories) not necessary, but couldn't hurt!
Before cleaning the blender, add a few ounces of milk/cream to it and shake to get the excess off the sides, and then drink it! We can't let those calories go to waste (put them on your waist instead ;3)
